Tell us about your career to date?
I have been working in Payroll and Human Resources for the last 28 years. I started off working in manufacturing before moving to Sainsbury’s for a few years and then was recruited to Equiniti Group, where I worked for a total of 16 years in payroll bureau and corporate managed services, 4 of which were as a supervisor, working on payrolls with thousands of employees.
I joined Centre for Independent Living in March 2018 and have found a workplace where I feel part of a strong team that works to support people with a disability who choose to live independently. This gives me a strong feeling of job satisfaction when I can help our service users to manage their payrolls so that they can take control of decisions regarding their care and support.
My role as Payroll Technical Officer allows me to work to improve the service that we offer to our clients through assessing our practices and continuously improving these through training the payroll team and working to improve our processes.
What qualifications did you bring to your role in Centre for Independent Living?
I hold a BTEC in Payroll Supervision and Team Leading and CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice.
What does a typical day Centre for Independent Living look like?
No two days are the same for me. I am currently working on a software project that allows me to analyse our systems and processes and make changes that improve how we do things. I love working hard to make improvements and seeing how that helps our service users. I also work on training our payroll team and continually making sure that they are up to date with legislation and working practices.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my husband and two sons and our dog, Bella and cat, Sullivan.
I love running and have recently challenged myself to improve my distance swimming by setting myself a target of swimming half a mile freestyle by Halloween! I am part of the Centre for Independent Living Relay Marathon team; we had been training for the Belfast Marathon 2020 however that has now been delayed until 2021. I also practice Reiki.
What’s your favourite movie?
I love Shirley Valentine, Once Upon a Time in America and also anything with Doris Day. I’m also a big fan of Downton Abbey!
