As an employer my household is in self-isolation. Do i have to pay the Personal Assistant? – Updated 27/3/2020

Yes – The employee is entitled to their full pay as you are asking them to stay away from the workplace on grounds of health and safety. Please contact your Employer Insurance company if you wish to discuss this further, they will provide you with a 24 hour Employment Law Advice Line.

Related Duties – you could also consider related duties while your PA is unable to enter your home due to Coronavirus. You could agree on other possible duties with your PA:

  • Collect or do your shopping and drop at your door. Use a telephone call to organise this.  You could leave a shopping list and money at your door for your PA to collect and deliver goods back to your door, or call your local shop, pay via the telephone and your PA could collect and drop to your door.
  • Collect and deliver your medication from the pharmacy and drop at your door.
  • Make regular phone or video calls to maintain regular contact during self-isolation.

Please also discuss if possible with your key worker/social worker within your local Trust.
